Initially they wanted to make 10 million, but the programmer responsible for the mint was so good that he was able to make mistakes in the simplest things and the smart-contract of the mint after 6 million bolts passed before his eyes could not stand it and died.
Some users are interested and may argue that bolts can be dominted. In fact, the contract was created back in the days when there was no official token standard.
